I was pleasantly surprised by the performance gain in Minecraft through my recent new gaming machine.. I used to run a quad core 2.4 Ghz with 4GB DDR2 (3GB actual as using Vista 32-bit) and a Nvidia 460 Graphics... Minecraft ran... OK.. but was very stuttery when generating blocks... especially on new maps, I could if I ran/flew fast enough get ahead of the chunk generation and be effectively runnnig around in open air/invisible world.. Also when attacking creatures the game would freeze ofr a second or so - very annoying... I also used to get the Java memory error (which i couldn't fix no matter how hard I tried), although turning the view distance down from Far and not running Fancy graphics stopped this error.. Generla FPS when playing was down about 13/14 Anyway.. My new machine is an i7 Sandybridge running at 4.5 Ghz overclocked.. 8GB of DDR3 Windows 7-64 Bit, a ATI 6970 - 1GB , and the OS (and minecraft) on a SSD drive - www.yoyotech.co.uk/item-detail.php?products_id=4374717Needless to say Minecraft now runs like a dream, in the 170-240 FPS range, and on full settings... New world and chunk generation is done seamlessly with no stutter or slowdown... Generating a brand new world to far view range takes literately seconds... Obviously my new machine is a bit of a powerhouse, but what is the usual limiting factor for Minecraft, Processor, memory or Graphics card???

What machines are you guys using, and what (if any) performance issues do you have?

I have pretty the same machine as you last one, but with 2 videocards and tuned. The problem is in the JAVA (32bit). Go to configuration => searche 'java' => open controle panel (If there stands JAVA 32bit see below) You see, General/Java/Security/advanced. Press on JAVA en then VIEW. Then the windows 'Java runtime environment settings' will open. unter the TAB users should be 1 line, if there are more delete them. Then you should have 1 line with Platform Product Location Path 1.6 - 1.6.0_24 httpblabla blabla Then you see 'Runtime paraameters' that one should be empty on defauld. But to allocate more memory to JAVA you need to put Xincgc -Xmx4048M in it. or more. Java can use more memory now and it should be over. The problem with me was also I had the 32bit java (defauld in windows 64bit ><) downloading java from there website isnt working for me so I downloaded here => download.cnet.com/Java-Runtime-Environment-JRE-64-Bit/3000-18481_4-75317067.htmlthen do the same as for the 32bit and it must be run smooth. I got only a few times the chunk error when I had 60k+ TNT blocks that I want to blow up...

Obviously my new machine is a bit of a powerhouse, but what is the usual limiting factor for Minecraft, Processor, memory or Graphics card??? Processor and memory, because It uses JAVA
