There's still a lot of things the devs are working on for single player, and features they want and need to add. I'd say no, multiplayer is not in development, and it'll be a long time before they'll be working on it.
Going Multiplayer adds a whole huge extra level of stuff to add.. i.e. recognition of WHAT townhall a particular settler is supposed to be related to etc... What happens if 2 town halls are within 100 blocks of each other..
I would love to have this go multiplayer. My family run a Bukkit server and I would be happy to play test for you (I’m a software engineer and IT Project Manager). Currently we are all hovering around a single player game playing your mod because this is the best mod we have seen. I know multi player is not a small task but it’s why I play MineCaft (to do something with family and friends). Here are some things that might help stream line multi player development for first round. 1) Only one city can be place in an area. The first Town Hall is owned by the player that got their first. 2) The player can role to other players, at first just add a list of people that have full rights to the town area and then you can add refinements latter.
Thanks for the fast update. I support the idea of getting single player working first. I just want to offer any support I can give when they are ready to start porting over to multi player. I'm a big believer in the iterative approach to dev work. I work on several multi user business application so I'm aware of the the extra level of concerns when you can no longer make single user assumptions not to mention learning to program a server vs. single player if you have not done that before. Keep up the good work guys, I just wanted to let you know their is strong interest in cooperative muliti player and hope you keep it on the radar as you make architecture level choices.

On top of the regular issues with bringing a single player game into multiplayer, Minecraft has a few different versions of multiplayer; the main two being vanilla and Bukkit. Yes, Bukkit uses the same jar files, but the implementation is different. The devs would either have to code for vanilla, or learn how to code for bukkit, which I believe doesn't use regular java... So it's either more work or less people being able to use the mod.
Either way, I'm going to guess it'll be at least a year before MineColony is ready to start working on multiplayer. There's a LOT of things to work out before they even decide what server type to code for.
