im not here for long yet, but those spambots are annoying. i tend to read new topics, but as those bots seem to seek out those most recent topics, they get really annoying. is there a way to get rid of them?

Other than changing the board so people have to register and be accepted before they can post (Which discourages people with just a problem they want solved.), or having one of those annoying "type this word in" every time you want to post, then no not really...

Forcing a sign-in gets rid of them most of the time. My previous forums never had that problem because of it.
However, some people can't justify making a new account to get an answer to a single question.

Although to be honest.. if they are the sort of people that won't sign in to get genuine help, then they are unlikely to be the sort of people that will bother reading the stickies, and therefore be posting stupid questions/problems we have answered/solved many times before - do we wan those type of people on these boards?? *shrug*

While I get tired of signing up for endless forums as well I'll take it over spambots any day and twice on Sundays. One of these days I may even signup on the official Minecraft forum Granted registration wont stop the flow of illiterate morons (again look at the official forums)

I actually tried to decipher what the spam bot was posting about but I still haven't really figured it out. Anyway, really looking forward to the new version of MC.

I agree with this too. Most people are quite used to the normal sign up system for forums. It's not a big deal to fill out a few forms, check your mail and confirm. If they actually need help, that's not a lot to go through to get it, and seeing as this will stop a lot of spam bots it's worth it. There's always gonna be haters, trolls, and stupid pointless questions that have been answered 100 times, no matter what you do.

I'm willing to bet that the search function is pretty damn hard if it's in a language you don't speak, and so is the account sign-up. I also am one of those people who refuses to use a mod/whatever if I can't get help without having to create an account I'll use ONCE. If we actually want to promote this mod, we have to make room for those kinds of people. MineColony isn't big enough to turn them away. Also, this is only the second time we've had spambots, at all. Usually I get them within a day, this time it's 2 days. It's really not that hard to fix the problem. I delete the posts they made, and ban their IPs. AND making them sign up for accounts doesn't stop them. It limits them, sure, but there are some that get through that anyway. As is, we don't actually get enough for me to worry about it. It's less than 10 minutes of work for me to erase all evidence that they were ever here. Just use the "Report to Mod" button on the bottom of their post and ignore them. I'll deal with it. I mean, that's kinda why I'm here. tl;dr Making users sign up for an account before posting was the default. I purposefully changed that. I'm not changing it back. Report the post, and I'll take care of it. We don't actually get spambots very often at all.

The onslaught of their attack coincided with your posting of that picture of homemade coconut curry. Spambots just go absolutely nuts for homemade curry.
I didn't know it mattered how many people use the mod since it isn't like there is funding involved, but hey, if you're happy manually policing the forums more power to ya (and you do do a great job btw).

Well, if I were a dev, I wouldn't waste my time making a mod that nobody used. Besides, skimming over posts gives me something to do.
