So last night i started testing Mine Colony on 1.8. First thing i notice is that the chests are different sized than the crafting bench. Okay. Maybe everyone knew that already.
The textures aren't working for the item in the inventory display. I think that might have been me playing around, i think i can fix that.
Put down a lumberjack block and citizen block. Hmm, the npcs don't behave correctly. They sort of go back and forth never doing anything correctly. By luck, the lumberjack got next to a tree, starts chopping and then runs off. Ugh. After an hour of playing around, i figure out they added new *default behaviour* to some of the code. I had to undo that. I think i figured it out.
Created a miner. He seems to be working now that i fixed the default behaviour.
Created a builder. He seems okay, but when i tried to build a house, it says 'null'. Hmm, still have problems to solve...
I can't really work today or tomorrow on the mod. I might be able to fix one quick thing, but thats it.

You'll just get it fixed and 1.8.2 or 1.9 will land

Shush. Besides, 1.8.2 and 1.9 aren't going to be that different from 1.8.1

Someone said that nether is always night. So workers would always sleep.
I expect 1.8.2 to be released in a day or two. But i don't expect it to impact my fixes appreciably. The snowman might be interesting.

I just saw some tweets from Notch and Jens stating that they're pre-releasing 1.9, right now. This is the fastest minor-version update I've ever seen. Notch says 1.9 is adding a bunch of Adventure stuff, but that more will be added in 1.10. Looks like there are NPCs in the villages now! And it looks like the snowman (aka Snow Golem) is going to be in 1.9, not 1.8.2. It's hard to say how much the 1.9 changes will affect MineColony, but most of them don't seem within the realm of MineColony's focus. Also, chests won't make a sound when you open them anymore. Thank God. For a list of community-known changes in 1.9, go here: www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/knxms/minecraft_19_prerelease_information/

The snowman might be interesting. Damn that would explain it hah, oh well, I dont know how it is coded but if they are coded into the actual games time it should still spawn them since the game time is still going in the nether (I have a mod that has the gametime in the top left, really handy). Although as I said I dont know how the game or the mod is coded so no idea how it would work :s Btw I tried the 1.9 pre-release, I would be happy if the snowmen didnt need a pumpkin on their head since it just looks stupid to me, also the NPC's mojang put in look stupid but thats just my opinion. Sorry for the extra long post but is there any intention on adding npc's like guards/soldiers and hunters? I would love to have this when 1.9 is out so I can make it known that my colony is far superior to the wierd new NPC's EDIT: Sorry, something else that just caught me, would the use of damage values work for the different chests? I have seen several other mods use them and from what I can see all it does is lower the amount of item ID's being used by a considerable amount. I am one of those silly people who likes using a lot of mods at once and this would make it much easier to change the ID's if required too. Although I presume its the case where each chest has a different piece of code because damage values on a block ID are for visual changes only?

Another pre-release already? Oi, this will surely annoy all mod makers. They need to go back to where they only release updates when intended.

I would think this wouldn't annoy mod makers... they get access to the code before the majority of players use it.
And they started pre-releasing because the way people were handling 1.8... When the programmers are starting to get called at home, in the middle of the night, what can you do? Notch has damn near a cult following, and they're crazy. The response to the pre-release was good, and pretty much ended their harassment. They'd be stupid to do it once, and then not do it afterwards.
The only reason they're not releasing the patches in the unfinished form is that their consumer base is now large enough that they can't risk being liable for system damages. With it being a pre-release, they're no longer liable if it damages someone's computer. They also get thorough bug reports via getsatisfaction.

Pre-releases make it much better for both the dev and the players, players get an early chance to play new features and dev's get peace till the leak new info. I personally think they were being very slow with the 1.8 update considering how quickly they managed to add a bunch of new blocks, items and mobs to the nether, I mean its been only a week since 1.8 and they have this but 1.8 took like a couple months (felt like a lot more) to get out only a couple of things more. I think minecraft is awesome and pretty amazing at times but other times I can see it is rediculously terrible with some things, I mean I know they have just been added but the NPC villages generation is terrible, I have seen 10-15 villages so far (I like to explore) and maybe 1 or 2 at the most has actually generated nicely, the rest are in a small valley with big height differences making it have sudden drops or the path is blocking a door and so on. The new NPC mobs look like deformed retarded aliens from the planet derp but I'm guessing more variation will be added by a mod of some sort (if there isnt within a month I'm learning java to do it myself as I really dont like them although I love more mobs. At the end of it I'm guessing a lot of mods that arent yet updated for 1.8 will just wait for 1.9 which makes me a little annoyed, not at the modders of course, many do a fantastic job. I would be annoyed- no -dissapointed that notch hasnt just released the source *cough* sorry 'API' for modders to use so they dont have to update every time Minecraft does. Sorry I probably got a lot of topic, I'm tired and I rant when I'm tired ;D ...I should shut up now

A lot of the stuff they're putting out in 1.9 (and 1.10) were things they were working on when they were making 1.8, and couldn't finish in time.
I'm sure if it's not changed, someone will have a mod out pretty quickly.
I really do wish he'd actually kept the whole promise of mod support for 1.8.

I installed the download from the link and it didn't work. No alterations in the gameplay.

Edit: Works fine for me, just a small texture glitch on the chests.
