I think a neat villager job would be having a guy that goes around and adds 'street lights' within the town hall's range. This would minimize mobs spawning at night, mainly the creeper who blows up houses when killed by the hunter(even though the hunter is bad ass). At the 1st tier he just puts down torches, when house build, builds 'street lights' made with wood and lanterns, then the next tier he would use glow stone instead of torches. They would place their lights anywhere the light level is 7 or less(mob spawning range). Then the hunters could be placed on the outsides of 'town' and prevent mobs from coming in and minimize the damage to buildings from creepers.
Just a silly idea that I think would be cool.

Why shouldn't the builders do this when they're idle?

The problem I'd have is that the only way to do this is to order them via placed signs. Signs are rather expensive, honestly. It'd be easier, and just as time consuming, to place the torches and such myself than to place signs for a builder to do it.

We could put a UI on the builder or builders block.

Signs are rather expensive, honestly. Farm signs by going to a box, and pressing "Build house". Then break the sign and pick it up.

Why shouldn't the builders do this when they're idle? Ya, that is a great idea!
