Hi, builder should make houses so the mod knows about new houses and levels. But You can make Your custom buildings by editing floorplan files.

They have to be built by the builder, HOWEVER you can change the floorplan, even to blank. I don't have my MineColony files with me right now, but if I remember correctly, the floorplan files are in the resources folder.

Correct in the Resources folder there should be a sub-folder called floorplans. Don't forget some bright spark on these forums has created a floorplan editor programme as well..

One other way is to edit the housing floorplans to just place say 1 block.. You can then easily run through the 4 levels of upgrade, so the citizen chest thinks it's level 4, but the house isn't actually built, leaving you to create the building you want around the citizen chest..

First..
Make a backup copy of all your floorplans.. just in case
Then open up the House 1 File (not sure of exact name - I'm at work still:P)
Change all references to blocks on level 1 to .. (double dots which indicate free space)
Delete all levels above 1
Save and you should be done - repeat for the other house plans...
You might have to play with it a few times to get it to work... but it should be obvious once you understand how the floor plans work...
Settlers should be able to find their way through doors fine (I'm guessing steel doors will be impassible for them though.)

You can always use MCNostalgia to backdate your client to a compatible version. like 1.8.1 or 1.9.5

Siince other parts of the code rely on there being multiple levels of a house, I'd suggest keeping multiple levels. They can all still be blank, or have only one block.
Keep in mind, also, that the higher levels of citizens (citizens level up as you level up their home) require pork as well as bread.
I use Minecraft Portable to have multiple versions of Minecraft.. so (if my regular computer had internet right now... ) I could play 1.0.0 for the shiny, and 1.9 for MineColony. Just search for it on Google.
