I'd really like to help develop MineColony, because: 1. I think it's an awesome mod, and the idea has great potential 2. It would give me an opportunity to look at the source code and learn many things from it 3. The mod could be updated faster 4. There are many bugs, and the more devs and other people you have, the faster you discover them So, this is kind of like an application… Gender: Male Age: 13 Skype: juliand665 Previous modding experience: www.minecraftforum.net/topic/515127-100-v11-the-j-craft-modpack-less-block-ids/ www.minecraftforum.net/topic/292415-166-ores-v03now-with-achievements/Reasons: mentioned above Comments: I think I would be a good addition to the dev team as I would be online a lot and update quite fast. If nothing else, please at least give me the source code

As it turns out, we are looking to expand the team. So we may just take you up on your offer. How much java do you know and what was your role on those other mods. Feel free to PM if you wish.

Awesome! I have to say that I have acquired almost 70% of my Java knowledge through modding minecraft, although I do believe it's enough. Those mods I showed you were made entirely by me, from graphics to code. If you could just contact me through skype or whatever kind of instant messenger you use, I would be very grateful

I am interested as well but I really don't know Java. I have started learning by poking around through the Minecraft source as well as whatever other mods are opensource but it'll be a long slow process I'm sure.

Heh yeah. One of these days I'm going to try to learn java... but every single person I know who knows any coding says NOT to start with java. So... yeah. Hopefully I can find a cheap class for C++ and learn the basics of how coding actually works there, and then learn java.
But I procrastinate. A lot.

Well, I think you can start with any language. C++ is very powerful, but 99% of the time, if you can do something in C++, you can do it in any other language. I recommend to start with C#: it's looks like Java, and you can program almost everything with it. Also, there are tons of tutorials on the net to learn it.
Releasing the source of the mod is a good idea, as everyone can improve it his own way, and help to find bugs. I don't know if I can help (My only experience in Java is a couple of small mods for Minecraft), but I already have some ideas and I will do my best.

Greeting, I think this a great Mod and would love to help in development. I have been a Software Engineer for about 10 year and now moving into Project management. I primarily programmed in c# but did use JAVA in school and I’m sure can pick it back up pretty fast. Jeff

A lot. 3dBuzz.com has free tutorials for C++ and other languages In addition to other tutorials which req. subscribing. Sorry for reviving such an old thread, I was actually looking for information about API or other information on modding/programming for MineColony.

Reading that first post, it's enough to renew my faith in the future, when a 13 year old can write significantly more eloquently and maturely than many adults I know.
I guess from his status that he got hired! :-)

Yup. Vlad asked me to add the OP to the dev usergroup a few days ago. I've considered taking up Java over this mod, but I think I have enough on my plate learning Spanish right now... and I pretty much have to learn it for the job I'm working now... so Java has to wait.

I would also like to help out with developing MineColony or atleast get a shot at understanding the source code, learn from it and try to create some new features / fix bugs.
I understand that you probably don't want to just throw your source code at some random dude, but I promise not to steal the code and claim it as my own so I would be willing sign any kind of licence / agreement to look at the code.
In any case, this is my information: Name: Glenn Fredriksen Age: 23 Country: Norway
Experience: I have programmed simple games inn C# with and without XNA. Still learning C# as my main programming language, I plan on studying computer engineering next year.
I have started to learn Java in order to make mods for Minecraft. I must say it's more the API's I'm learning than Java, java is pretty similar to C# since both are object oriented languages.
