With NPC towns reportedly being part of the 1.8 Update due soon, any ideas how this will impact/conflict with this Mod ??

None whatsoever. Until 1.8 comes out, the devs can't adapt their code, because they don't know what code is in 1.8. Such is the nature of mods.
So back up your bin folder or don't update minecraft, unless you want your MineColony saves to corrupt.
I use multiple versions of minecraft when I mod. Some people make a bat file to do this, but I just use MinecraftPortable. (If you want to try it, and need help, let me know.)

Even when everything is compatible, it shouldn't conflict much. The new towns will only spawn in newly generated chunks, since that's what happens with everything that's new. If it's a new world, simply build your town away from the NPCs. This isn't Millenaire, you can build your town anywhere

so it should work with the 1.8 pre-release?

No idea. From what i gather, notch basically encrypts his code, and modders have to un-encrypt it, and then re-encrypt the mods to match his encryption... so MineColony might work, but it might not.
You can try it yourself and see, but make sure to back up your worlds first. It may very well crash your Minecraft and corrupt your saves.

No. 99% of the time a new release means lots of new changes. I dont see anything that fundamentally means we have to change the way things work. Maybe for the miner, otherwise he'll be mining rail carts and stuff from the abandoned mines.

OK it dousnt work... there are items that take up the 100 - 110 slots so unless you could change the item ids to the last of the id slots available.. that and is there a chance you could show me how to unencrypted and re-encrypt?

Unfortunately, neither Vega nor I know know to program in java, so we can't help you with that. IDResolver might help with the item IDs, but from what Vega said (in the 1.8 thread), Minecolony still bugs out in other ways.
I'd say stick with 1.7.3 if you want to run MineColony, until the actual mod developers can update MineColony to run with 1.8.

I taught myself how to script in second life by looking at code and seeing what functions do what. Thought I could apply that to java but when I looked at the code I was dumbfounded. Given the time and desire I could probably teach myself enough, but as I see it now, probably too much effort for too little reward since I would only do small modding projects on existing mods to tailor them to my liking.
Anyway, way off topic. We're all just going to have to wait for the devs to update to 1.8. Plus I believe I've heard Jens saying that 1.8 would be broken up into several smaller pieces (kinda like how the first bunch of updates for 1.7 were, but to more effect). So it's likely even after Minecolony 1.8 is released, there's no telling how much or how little time it will be until 1.8.1 is released and the code be needing updated to it.

My bf knows some code... apparently java is the bitchiest code ever. I'd like to learn so I can make mods for Minecraft when it's actually done... but with updates and whatnot, I don't find it worth it right now.
But yeah. We'll just have to wait. I have a vanilla 1.7.3 I might put up once 1.8 comes out officially, so people can still have their MineColony.

Good thing, because I always forget about my mods when there's a new patch Me: Oooo New patch.... Install ALL the patches! Me in about 25 seconds when I try to use SPC: ARGGHHHHHH Happens every time. Edit - Ignore my meme spreading tendencies as seen above, it happens when I'm reading memebase too much. Actually on second thought, this pretty much captures the feeling of a new minecraft patch.
