Hey all. The new Snapshot of Minecraft seperates the Server-logic and Client. [1]So when Minecolony is being updated to 1.3 will it be compatible with multiplayer? Or at least will it be planned, since as far as i know, singleplayer will then be a locally hosted server. Thanks to all the devs for this awesome mod. Keep it up. I actually had to read that three times before my knee-jerk reaction to "multiplayer compatible" went away. Legit question though. I don't know how separating server-logic and client will affect MineColony.
However, I know it's NOT going to be planned as a specific project. If it works, great. If not, the devs have other things they're working on. Every single time someone asks if this mod is going multiplayer, the answer has been no because there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out first.

Thanks for the answer. Well seems like we all have to wait for the mod to be finished then, but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

as far as I understand it from the dev plans there will be no more server/client they will be one and the same? meaning that if the mod is for singelplayer it will be for MP aswell. But if so keep in mind that there are going to be EXTREME changes to the source code for minecraft, we will most likely be doing things a lot differently after 1.3 so I'm going to guess that 1.3 update for mods will take quite some time

All single player games will run on a locally created server.. so they are in effect multiplayer games.. You can therefore allow others to connect to any of your single player games, subject to the capacity of your connections/PC etc...
Now how the game will handle one person creating a server with a mod installed and another trying to connect who doesn't have the same mods installed, who only knows... I suspect the person trying to connect will crash out whenever they try and do anything that conflicts with the original persons game (speculation of course)
In Theory though, if two people have the same version of minecraft, ModLoader (assuming it's still required) and MineColony installed, there should be no reason they can't both play on the same game.. Of course this leads to the bigger question about ownership of the colony.. as potentially any person playing in that game can interact with the colony...
Interesting question, can/will the devs think about changing MineColony to be multi-colony compatible, and what type of overheads would that run on peoples systems??
No idea how a remote dedicated server will run under this Architecture, but I suspect it won't be hugely different to currently, with the Server effectively running the single player game, to which everyone connects (will that mean servers have to have a paid copy of minecraft to set the game up??)
Interesting time....
