Hi. I was just wondering if there was a way to set the land area a farmer will use?
I found farmerWorkingRange=9 in the properties but at the moment he's hoeing 14/15 squares from his chest, (which is unfortunately situated on the edge of a mountain and he's just flooding the houses below) I'm not sure how the '9' works out to be '14' so I'm not sure what to change it to.. or if its the right value to change.
also is there any way to change the pattern of his farmland?

I'm thinking that 9 represents the distance from the chest based on that, which would make the total area that he'd farm 19x19, if that's true.

at the moment he's hoeing 14/15 squares from his chest I think it's supposed to be distance from the chest, but I've had my farmer glitch a bit and farm way the hell away from where he's supposed to... so I dunno.

I've set the value lower (5) and he still hoe's from his chest to everywhere else (stopped him at 11) but he will only plant seeds as far out as I set the value.
*I have changed the farm location but now as well as farming the new land, he continues to farm the old land even though there is no farmer chest there. changing the farmer didn't stop that either. (making a new house and then destroying farmers house chest)
I think I might have to build him an island.

Either that or make it so farmers cant hoe away fences... then you can effectively set his area by fencing him in !!

I'm not sure that would work, I've tried placing stone and they skip that block and hoe behind it.I imagine they would do the same with a fence and they seem to have a rather long reach, 12 blocks I think..
I was thinking about editing the farmers so that they don't hoe or create water, just plant and gather on a pre-built farming plot

So just what is the issue here? That farmers mess up the grass?

no sorry, just to clarify - the only issue was the farmer spreads continually (through homes and such or over the edge of a mountain/hill causing waterfalls and so on) regardless of the settings in the properties file. I was asking if there was another way to contain him.

My farmer demolished half of a house next to him, plus a few fences and such...

I've had the problem too, where he goes far outside the defined range. I haven't had him demolish fences or anything though, so usually I just end up fencing him in. I've had him dig himself down into a cave building the water channels (which aren't very efficient), and I've had him flood whole areas, because he placed water on a hill.

Perhaps he should have a floor plan type build, and he always builds that, nothing more. Like 6x6 patches with the outer edge of the patch being water. Actually, I think I'll work on a design for that in case it's liked enough to be used.
Edit: Alternative idea, he works in a predefined area and never ventures beyond the limit of that area. He would also refuse to work until the builders have leveled the land, basically meaning that the workers would have to build a 2 block high dirt field for him, with the chest being on top of that, then the second tier of the build would be the level 1 farmer hut.
