Just as the title says, I think there should be a suggestion thread, so people can just post ideas in one area.
Also maybe clear up the old posts to archives since a lot of posts on the front seem to be old.

There's not really an "archives" section. Old posts get pushed back when new threads are created. The way to get old posts off the front is to create new threads. I'm not locking threads based on age though, as quite a few old threads have new posts in them, and are still active.
I'm also not making a suggestions thread. It's been done by others, and people still create new threads for suggestions. Most of these people seem to be kids (from how they type) who don't actually look around before posting anyway, so having a dedicated thread for it won't help any. In fact, most of the problems people have are pretty much because they don't read stickies. Almost all of the installation and villager problems are solved in the sticky threads, but we get new posts about that constantly.

What WOULD be good is a dev only thread of ideas they are working on in the Short/Medium/Long term... This would likely stop most "suggestions" threads as the items are usually already on their list in some form

The devs regularly talk about what's planned and what they're working on. They also have a private section of the board that only they have access too with to-do lists... which is partially where I'm getting my info when people ask about things. Again, the problem is mostly people not reading through a few threads before they start posting.
