This weekend i decided to try out some new mods to see how the miner works. I loaded Redpower plus ExtraBiomesXL, mo creatures, humans+ and of course mine colony.
Of course, as i usually do, i play minecraft with my neice, who never misses the chance to tell me what i did wrong, or how i could do things faster.
The ExtraBiomes adds some very attractive and diverse Biomes, from Glacial Tundras with lots of ice, to sand Mountains and redwood forests. These all are very attractive and lots of fun to see. They could be a little bigger but maybe that will happen by itself with the next release of minecraft.
Mo Creatures and Humans + everyone knows, but it is interesting that they did not spawn anywhere in the new biomes. While this was boring to me. I was about to create a new village in a Pine Tree Forest, i noticed that there were no enemies and thus no need for guards. My neice on the other hand, loved this 'feature' as she was always worried about the bears and hunters that usually spawned.
So as much as i liked the new biomes, the interaction between them and the other 2 mods made it unworkable.
Redpower has many features, and i didn't even cover 1/10th of them. My main concern was the volcanos, which always seemed to be where i spawned, and the new marble and basalt block types.
Both of these played havoc with the miner. 1) because the miner doesn't use the built in functions that minecraft has to let you know if the stone pickaxe can mine through marble (it can) and 2) the miner thinks marble is a great thing to have and he takes all his time digging it up.
I haven't seen any distribution charts, but i'd suspect that the marble was very common around the level the miner digs at, so this had me babysitting the miner the whole time. I probably should have upgraded his hut so that he digs lower, but i was also very busy trying to defend the workers from the humans+/mo creatures onslaught.
All in all, very fun and educational. A nice break from modding.
