Hey.. I heard that in 1.3 you can make your single player servers multiplayer with LAN connection... I also heard that if both/all players have the same mods as the server owner, everybody can use them.. does that mean that it is "possible" to use minecolony for smp..
If it is.. Would you be adding some type of player names to towns so one cant steal a colony from another?

I think not in the next version. The dev's are working on more important things.

It MIGHT work by default though... Although there will only ever be one colony in the game..

Will there be a version of MineColony where you can build more than one colony?

It's not something the devs are working on. The main focus is making the colony stable and self-sufficent. I'm sure once that's done (probably far into the future), the devs will start working on other things.

I'm sure once that's done (probably far into the future), the devs will start working on other things. Until the next update, your colony is defenseless. Until later updates, your workers won't be able to get tools and weapons to do their jobs. So, until then, I agree with Coconut and they need to stabilize the Colonies now until a Colony can work on it's own.

Millenaire only simulates the town the player is in at the moment. The other towns are "frozen" (the mod actually tells you that) until you visit them.
Unless they can figure out a way to keep memory use under control, I think the Minecolony devs will have to do something like that if they add support for multiple Town Halls.

It is possible railcraft does it via a block "Anchor block" their block keeps a 3x3 area active even if not players are present. (http://railcraft.wikispaces.com/World+Anchor+%28Device%29) One for Miencolony could be fashioned. Though for multi-play purposes it probably be a good idea to keep it so it can't be crafted so that it's admin control sense the more areas active the more resource/cpu costly it becomes. Also the developers may wish to take a look at the millenaire mod, they're npc villages are mostly self sufficent...they don't mine their own iron, obsidan or gold (obsidan & gold are a Mayan thing). and they stay active for a defined distance away from player (which is adjustable in a config file). Ultimately I think the best way (if it can be figured out) would be set distanted to generate resources based on the last data of the surrounding area and just number process without moving NPC's and destroying blocks. Would be considerably less resource intensive I would think.

It should work yes, but there will only ever be one colony, and all players will likely be able to interact and control that colony

It certainly seems like the colony could work with lan play. However the new implementation of chests is problematic and mine colony is FULL of chests.

LAN works with any mod. Even if only the host has the mod (expect bugs though). The only problems:
Only one colony can be made globally. Audio Bugs. Chat errors (villagers will have errors saying things to ALL players) And other misc bugs and random crashes...

I'm currently playing BTW with Timber on LAN with my boyfriend. LAN and SMP are still different, somehow... but over LAN it works just fine. Though... we can't breed chickens at all.
