so, the miner that is supposed to be at gold mine level has decided to tunnel to the surface, and start dismanteling my town. . . in the pic, you can see the shaft up, and the short path of destruction he was on before I cought it. I tried to recall him, and he went right back to where he was on the surface. restarted the game, and the activity continued. killed him, and his replacement also went there to start trying to dismantle the house. his chest, is about 30 blocks away, at the bottom of the hill the houses he hates so much are sitting on.

The placement of your chest is the problem. He calculates depth based on the elevation of the chest. Put it someplace lower.

the chest is below the hill. where he is digging to destroy the houses is above his chest by almost 10 blocks.

The problem with my miners is that they tend to mine their own chests instead of the block beside it. It ends up with the miner turning back into a jobless citizen, and a useless building. Also, there's a small chance that after they do a staircase mine then you recall them, they stop doing anything and hang around the steps. The only solution I found is to destroy the Miner's Chest and create another one again, sometimes even ending up with the first problem. Very frustrating.
