Sooo.. I'm getting to the point where I cannot keep my colony on a level basis as it is too big to have all the chunks it needs loaded at the same time. Is there a way you could code it so the chunk each and every NPC is in is forced to load.. (at least via an enable able feature in the properties so those with ridiculously poor machines can keep running ??) As it stands I cant have my miners and farmers working at the same time I appreciate there are 3rd party mods that can craft blocks that keep the chunks loaded, but for miners that dig off over many different chunks that makes it hard to keep them going, also not sure if it's causing issues with the D-Man - I think he misses them out all together...

The problem with keeping every chunk loaded is CPU cycles. The entire reason MineColony (and Millenaire) doesn't keep all the chunks loaded is because that absolutely KILLS memory. The main problem is that Minecraft itself has some glaring memory leaks (which can mostly be fixed by Optifine), but the mods themselves might also have memory leaks that contribute to the problem.

Aw, that sucks... So that means as long as I have a crappy computer my colony's limited to only a few hundred blocks.

My Computer could handle it, hence why I asked if it could perhaps be something we could enable via the properties (if we have machines capable)

There are chunk loader mods available. Mods of this sort have a special block that you can place anywhere that forces the chunk it is placed in to remain loaded, no matter how far away you move.

I know that, but that's not much use for say the miner, where he can go digging off across many different chunks, or the delivery guy who is running all over... If the NPC's themselves were the chunk loaders, then this would solve all those issues

Except for the memory leaks.

And the better your computer is, the faster memory leaks will lead to a crash. Having a computer that could handle the raw cpu cycles doesn't mean anything when there are memory leaks.

right now, I have just about every chunk my colony covers with a loader block from railcraft. Using most up to date forge, and optifine. having no problem with memory leaks atm.
though I do have a 3.31 ghz 6 core processor, with 16 gig of ddr 3 ram.

Installing version 7 of Java helped me a lot with memory problems while playing Minecraft. I recommend updating to 7 if you are still on 6.

I can confirm, that this works realy nice. Optifine for adjusting your graphics. Buildcraft + AdditionalPipes for the chunkloader block (it's called Teleport Tether). I placed one by the woodcutters hut because the planted trees didn't grow when I was away. Problem solved!

If you use Rei's Minimap mod, you can configure the minimap to show you the boundaries of each chunk, so that you will know where you need to place them.
