Ordinarily the delivery man will not visit the builder. All well and good, I suppose, but sometimes the builder's chest can get full of stuff that you'de rather have sorted and stored in the warehouse. What to do?
One solution is to pipe the builder's chest into a worker's chest that the delivery man does visit; pretty much anyone that uses tools. This works for houses as well, as they accumulate drops from around town.
An easy way to do this is just stack a house chest on a worker chest, and pipe one to the other. It will also cut down on the number of houses built.
CAUTION: If you put anything on top of a chest, and then upgrade that chest building, a sign will appear and wipe out the block on top of the chest. So get your upgrades in place before setting another chest on top.

How about limiting the non-working villagers' ability to pick up objects down to foodstuffs? And I really wish the deli guy could take things from the house chests.

Having villagers pickup items, combined with the Builder's ability to raid any chest, works well for me. Often, the Builder will collect stuff from chests all over town, saving me the hassle of having to provide for him.
