The builder chest contains 9x3=27 stacks. But the builder seems to collect far more than that on his person. Like if you build a Castle.floorplan, or build several things in a row, or clear out a variety of stuff, and so on.
When he gets back to the builder chest after mission complete, he drops off 27 stacks of stuff.
What happened to the rest of the stuff he was carrying?

I was wondering what should be the proper behaviour.
Putting it in the warehouse? Dropping it?
Warehouse is probably ideal.

You can always just kill him before he reaches his workshop: he'll drop everything.

How about a series of fall-back cases: - Try to put everything in the builder chest
- Try to put any remaining stuff in warehouse chests
- Drop any remaining stuff for others to collect.

How difficult would it be for the builders chest and delivery boys chest to be double chests by default ??

If I build another chest onto the Builder's chest (or the dman for that matter) will they recognize that there's a larger chest? How does that work?

Nope as the two chests are different ID's it just puts a normal single chest immediately next to the MineColony chest.. To get a double chest would need the mod code changing to provide it when the chest is first placed

How about adding a double-chest or two the Builder's hut floorplan, and having the Builder use that first? I already do this in my games to be able to give the Builder more resources in one go.

The level-1 first build of Warehouse (delivery man) floorplan has about eight double chests.
The Builder will use any chests nearby, but I don't remember how far that extends.
