I love how modular this plugin is. It's like playing SimCity, but with minecraft. However, for a newcomer, it can be a little difficult planning out your city (especially if you end up wasting materials and time with poor planning).
So, it got me thinking. Why not create floorplans that do the following:
1. Level the area 2. Cordon it off with a fenced area 3. Mark the position of the chest where it would go with something simple like dirt.
Expanding on that idea, create some simple layouts like a row of 5 houses or a quad of houses. Stuff like that.
I wanted to also make some modular path layouts as well.
I'll let you know when I have something worth showing.

I have one or two floorplans for that made. I intended to make one for every standard building in Minecolony... but corporate bigwigs are coming into town this month, so everyone's having to work extra, and I haven't had time to play with MineColony much. If anyone else can finish them before I get to, I won't mind.

Hey that's a great idea! Some thoughts on this topic: - Have a standard procedure for signs, like the square behind it is always the lower left corner
- Leave an opening in the fence, closest to where the door is going to go
- Mark the actual position of under the door with cobblestone
- Mark the chest with something more unusual, like sandstone. Sometimes it will have to go on top of several dirt blocks, which could be confusing.
- Clear the sky up as high as the tallest version of the structure

I agree. I will change what I have to match this. Yeah, that's what I was doing. Not only to be able to walk in but also to be able to make sure my road block was connected appropriately. I don't see the benefit of this, but hell, it's easy to do. I want the zoning to be as minimal and resource efficient as possible so people who don't have instabuild on (like me) can grab the least amount of materials as possible to set something up. I dig the sandstone, but also dirt is easiest to grab. I figured since we're leveling and clearing the area, the one dirt block would stand out on a level area, but sandstone would work. Just would hate to have someone have to go out and find a desert biome just to lay out some zoning plans. Definitely a given. -------- To the devs, while this is practical and all, it would be super cool to code some boundaries like BuildCraft does, but zoning floorplans would also be more realistic. I'm also a developer myself, but moreso a web developer. I'd entertained the idea of a floorplan generator, but that would be double work I suppose

It's for redundancy, which builds confidence that the placement is correct. Seeing where the floor of the door will appear is a confirmation of both the floor elevation and the building orientation. Redundancy is in my opinion an undervalued commodity. If sand seems like a rare resource, then perhaps a wood log. Those fences are going to require a lot of wood anyway.
