I assume you're using version .7, rc12. If not, it's found here. rc13 is available here, but I haven't tried it myself yet.
I think you installed the mod incorrectly.
Start with a fresh minecraft. Either tell your minecraft client to "force update" or delete your .minecraft folder. (If you don't know how to find your .minecraft folder, instructions are below.)
First, you need ModLoader. Click the link to download.
You need to install ModLoader by going into your .jar file.
On Windows:
Go to your start bar, and find "Run"
Type in "%AppData%
Find the .minecraft folder
In the .minecraft folder, there is a bin folder.
In the bin folder are several files.
Right click on minecraft.jar, and open with either WinZip or 7Zip
Use the same program to open up the ModLoader folder.
Select all the files in the ModLoader folder, and drag them into the minecraft.jar. 7zip asks if you're sure... I don't know if WinZip does, but if so, select yes.
Inside the minecraft.jar is a folder named META-INF. DELETE that folder. If you don't, your Minecraft will just blackscreen.
Close out of the minecraft.jar.
ModLoader is installed. RUN minecraft. This makes sure that ModLoader is installed correctly, and creates the mods folder in your .minecraft folder.
THEN you install MineColony.
Go back to your .minecraft folder. *NOT* the .jar file.
Open up the MineColony folder. You can open it up normally, or open it up with 7zip. If you open it with 7zip, it'll just copy over the files, so if you screw up, you don't have to redownload the mod.
This is where I think you screwed up.
In the MineColony folder, there are some files, and 3 folders.
In your .minecraft folder, you should see one file, and several folders, including the bin folder. If you don't see the bin folder, you're in the wrong place.
Open up the "put into minecraft folder" folder in your MineColony folder. Inside is the MineColony.properties file.
Put that file in the .minecraft folder. NOT the jar, NOT the bin folder. In your \Application Data\.minecraft folder.
Back in your MineColony folder, with the 3 folders in it. The next folder says "put into mods folder." Open that up.
In your .minecraft folder (the one where you put the properties file), there should be a mods folder. If not, then you didn't run the game after installing ModLoader. Create the folder if it's not there.
Go into the mods folder.
Select all files from the "put into mods folder" folder, and put them into the mods folder.
Back in your .minecraft folder and your MineColony folder.
In the MineColony folder, we have one more folder. The "put into resources" folder. Open that up.
In your .minecraft folder, there should be a folder called "resources." Open that up.
Drag and drop from the mod folder to the .minecraft/resources folder.
MineColony should be installed correctly at this point. Run Minecraft and check.
