So, some of you may have noticed, but I'm actually managing to get on the forum semi-regularly again. I think my body finally adjusted to working the overnight shift...
Anyway, I'd been thinking of completely re-doing the MineColony wiki for a long while now. I enjoyed working on it before I created the forums, but nobody has admin permissions on the current wiki. The main issue with that is nobody can delete useless pages.
Most of the pages on the wiki are out of date, or simply contain bad info. Most aren't created with a consistent template, which makes it hard for new users to quickly and easily find the information they're looking for.
However, I do work full-time, and have a 4 hour commute time each day. I have about an hour to screw around after I get home and shower before I have to go to bed. I can't create a whole new wiki, and keep it up to date, all by myself.
So, vote in the poll on if you want a new wiki or not, and let me know if you'd like to help. You don't know how to use the wiki formatting; it looks more complicated than it is.

Or... can't you just edit the pages to redirect? I've tried to edit a page whenever I can get enough info, but I'm bad at writing pages from scratch, like the barracks page I went to try to edit... then scrapped...

And because of that we make a new wiki

Well, we can copy stuff over, right? Because I just did 1/3 of the Barracks page... going to try and finish tonight. Also, I'm going to make Placement diagrams for people who want them. I'm going to make a thread later about it. So far I've done the barracks (check wiki page).
Edit: The tricky part is buildings like the Bakery, which the base is smaller than the upper part of the building.

You can make the pages redirect... but they'll still show up in say, search results.
And yeah, pretty much anything that's up to date would be basically copied over. Maybe tweaked a little bit to follow a template.

If you have a template, I'd like to see it. That way I can have it transfer-ready. For now though, I'll be doing the best I can and entering in the info needed.

The barrack page is good but maybe you could make the picture better and maybe add more information of possible.

I'm new to the mod, but not to wikis. At this point it doesn't matter which way this vote goes there's a LOT of work to be done. If you really wanted to, I'm sure the more dedicated wikians would be able to petition to MediaWiki for ownership of the dying wiki. If that is not the case, then the only logical choice is to create a new wiki, no matter what anyone else says. Wikis demand authoritative attention and it is floundering because there are no standards. They need templates (not that I know how to make them), accurate information, and good pictures WITH THE DEFAULT TEXTURE. Other textures might look pretty, but they would only serve to potentially confuse people, especially with complex floorplans (which, I might add, could use some top-down views). It also destroys any pretense of uniformity. If you're looking for a provider, I would suggest wikia. Also, CoconutCurry, the wiki, by its very nature, should never rest on only one person's shoulders. It's a community effort and thus there should be a distinct chain of command as well as multiple (dependable) people with admin status. That way there's more of a chance of issues being resolved. I am in no way asking for that lofty status as I admit that I am, by my very nature, undependable and prone to disappearing without notice. I'm just asking for a stable environment to contribute to. I just get timed out waiting for the wiki to respond. It's probably just your connection. Also, highly off-topic. You should have posted this as a separate thread. "must train their combat through combat" maybe make it "must train their skills through combat" If you see an error, fix it. This is hardly the thread to point such minor details out on. That's what the talk pages are for. That or a PM as I'm assuming you're talking to satanmaster.

I'll contribute what I can when I can. If you would like more details on the pictures, you can save the pictures from the wiki to your computer, edit them, then re-upload them to the same file location. When you upload an edited picture to an existing wiki file, it'll update everywhere that picture is posted. It makes life easier. I am in no way asking for that lofty status as I admit that I am, by my very nature, undependable and prone to disappearing without notice. I'm just asking for a stable environment to contribute to. I am very spontaneous, I will want to put a lot of time and effort into this for a short while, then spontaneously change games. However, I do have the nature of eventually coming back. So, like Soaringdragon here, I do not wish to obtain Administrator status due to me not being very dependable.

"must train their combat through combat" maybe make it "must train their skills through combat" Fixed. Also added more text to the Placement Diagram caption

I agree with all of this. And anything that isn't clear should be made clear in the wiki documentation, Coconut. The wiki is dismal in that respect. (Hence why a new one should be made) Coconut, if you can get a design template set up, some of us can help fill in data and get the wiki looking nice. Edit: Sorry for the triple post, I probably should've just edited the first one a dozen times...
